Harrison Gwamnishu Warns

Harrison Gwamnishu, a well-known social media activist and advocate for justice, recently shared a cautionary tale on his Facebook page, urging people to be wary of fake video calls in online relationships. Gwamnishu highlighted the case of Ikenna Obi, a man operating on Facebook under the name “IKENNA USA,” who allegedly deceived a woman named Onyinye.

In his initial post, Gwamnishu detailed how Onyinye had been proposed to by Ikenna, who claimed to have recently returned from the USA. To solidify his deceit, Ikenna conducted several video calls with Onyinye and her brother, further convincing them of his false identity. Trusting these interactions, Onyinye decided to travel to Calabar to meet him in person. However, since her departure, she has not been heard from, and her phones are switched off. This alarming situation prompted Onyinye’s brother to reach out to Gwamnishu, who then involved the police to investigate.

Gwamnishu’s follow-up post served as a stern warning to the public: “Pictures and video calls to you are not enough to visit a man you met on social media. These guys do make fake video calls.” His message underscores the growing sophistication of online scammers who use technology to create convincing, yet fake, personas.

The case of Onyinye and Ikenna highlights the risks associated with online relationships and the lengths to which scammers will go to deceive their victims. Gwamnishu’s activism in bringing such issues to light is crucial in educating the public and advocating for the safety of individuals who engage in online interactions.

As the police continue to investigate Onyinye’s whereabouts and the true identity of Ikenna, Gwamnishu’s posts serve as a reminder to exercise caution and verify the authenticity of online connections before taking any significant steps. His efforts to raise awareness about such scams are a valuable service to the community, helping to prevent others from falling victim to similar deceit.
