Hon. Obi Aguocha Under Fire for Constituency Fund Management

In a bold move, the Nkwoachara Ward Development Union in Umuawa Alaocha, Ohuhu, Umuahia North LGA, Abia State, has formally requested detailed accounts of constituency funds and palliative measures allocated to the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency since June 2023. Citing the Freedom of Information Act, the community, through their legal counsel, Chijioke Udeogu & Co Solicitors, is demanding transparency from Hon. Obi Aguocha, their representative in the House of Representatives.

The community’s request specifically seeks information on funds approved and disbursed to the Abia Central Senatorial District, where their constituency lies. They are also demanding a breakdown of all constituency projects, including their financial allocations, and details of social welfare packages released to the district within the said period.

The demand for transparency stems from concerns that while other constituencies received federal palliatives, Hon. Obi Aguocha claimed that the Ikwuano/Umuahia constituency was excluded from such allocations. This has raised suspicions among the community members, prompting them to take legal steps to ensure accountability.

The letter obtained by GistDetective highlights the community’s determination to hold their representative accountable. It asserts their right to access public records and insists that any refusal to provide the requested information within the legally mandated timeframe will lead to legal action against both Hon. Obi Aguocha and the National Assembly.

This move by the Nkwoachara Ward Development Union signals a growing demand for transparency and accountability from elected officials, reflecting a broader push for good governance and responsible representation in Nigeria.
