Mohbad family calls for more witnesses over singer’s death
The family of the late Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, known professionally as Mohbad, has voiced concerns regarding the public dissemination of sensitive details related to the singer’s death. The legal team representing the Aloba family has criticized the release of such information, asserting that it should have been directed to the authorities rather than being shared with the general public.
Taiwo Odumosu, a leading member of the legal team, issued a statement to PUNCH Metro on Sunday, emphasizing that information about Mohbad’s death ought to be handled with discretion and reported to the police. The statement urged anyone with pertinent information about the circumstances of the singer’s passing to come forward and share their knowledge with the legal team. This, according to Odumosu, would help in facilitating a thorough and lawful investigation. He further recommended that the police be contacted to ensure the protection and security of both witnesses and potential suspects.
The statement read in part, “In light of the sensitive nature of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba’s death and the public release of information that should have been confined to the police, the Aloba Family’s Legal Team advises anyone with relevant information about the circumstances leading to the singer’s death to contact us. We aim to facilitate proper legal procedures. The police are also available to protect and ensure the safety of all involved parties.”
Odumosu also highlighted that the coroner’s inquest had issued witness summons and that the family was actively seeking assistance in gathering essential facts to understand the reasons behind Mohbad’s tragic death. “It is important to understand that Joseph Aloba is not pursuing any personal or familial agendas at this time. His sole focus is on uncovering the truth about what happened to his beloved son and the factors that contributed to his untimely death. The Coroner’s Court is the most appropriate venue for revealing any information that could aid in this investigative process,” the statement continued.
Mohbad passed away at the age of 27 on September 12, 2023, and the circumstances surrounding his death have generated significant controversy and debate on social media. Mohbad had previously been associated with Marlian Music, a record label owned by Naira Marley, but left the label in February 2022. Following his death, the Lagos State Police Command established a 13-man special investigation team on September 18, 2023, to examine the case.
The investigation into Mohbad’s death also resulted in the arrest of Naira Marley and the controversial Lagos socialite Balogun Eletu, also known as Sam Larry, among others. On September 21, 2023, Mohbad’s body was exhumed for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of his death.
