Abia State Police Command Parades Latest Suspects and Crime Updates
Today, the Abia State Police Command showcased suspects detained for various offenses in the State. During a press briefing held at the command headquarters in Umuahia, Police Public Relations Officer ASP Maureen Chinaka provided an update on the command’s ongoing efforts to enhance public safety and maintain a secure environment conducive to socio-economic development.
ASP Chinaka emphasized the command’s success in reducing incidents of armed robbery, kidnapping, vandalism, child trafficking, rape, and defilement. She reported that many of the suspects have been charged in court, with significant progress made in several high-profile cases.
Key achievements highlighted by the command include:
– Arrests: 142 male and 20 female suspects were apprehended during recent operations.
– Rescue Operations: 6 children and 4 kidnapping victims were safely recovered.
– Seized Weapons and Equipment: The police recovered 11 locally made single-barrel shotguns, 5 double-barrel shotguns, 13 live cartridges, 10 spent cartridges, 7 vehicles, 1 auto rickshaw, and 3 motorcycles.
– Illicit Substances: Substances suspected to be cannabis sativa (Indian hemp) and other illicit drugs were confiscated.
–Additional Recoveries: Among other items, police seized railroad sleepers, 9 mobile phones, a police warrant card, a camouflage cap, a variety of tools, currency, and numerous household items.
