Brain Jotter: I did not make money from Mike Ejegha Viral Dance Challenge

Recently, Nigerian comedian and skit maker Chukwuebuka Amuzie, famously known as Brain Jotter, sparked a social media frenzy with a viral dance challenge based on Mike Ejeagha’s 1983 hit “Onye Ori Utaba,” featuring the iconic chant “Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo.” Amidst the excitement, concerns arose regarding copyright and revenue distribution for the original artist.

In response to these concerns, Brain Jotter took a proactive approach to clarify the situation. In a heartfelt video posted on Tuesday, he emphasized that he and his team were not profiting from the viral trend. “For those who think we ripped him off or we’re making money from this whole thing, I understand your concerns and they are very valid,” he assured his audience.

Brain Jotter went on to explain the mechanics of content monetization on platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube. He highlighted that all revenues generated from the viral challenge were directed to Mike Ejeagha’s record label and production company, thanks to stringent copyright protection tools implemented by these platforms.

Furthermore, he revealed a significant gesture of goodwill towards Mike Ejeagha, mentioning that he personally handed over two million naira to the music legend. “The two million I gave him was from my pocket. My hard-earned money is just for humanity and not for profit,” he affirmed, demonstrating his commitment to respecting the artist’s contribution.

In reflecting on the impact of the viral challenge, Brain Jotter expressed gratitude for the joy it brought to Mike Ejeagha and his supporters. “The joy in his heart now is my profit,” he stated, underscoring the intrinsic rewards of spreading happiness and recognition.

Overall, Brain Jotter’s handling of the viral dance challenge not only celebrated Nigerian musical heritage but also set a commendable example of ethical conduct and respect for artists’ rights in the digital age. His actions resonate as a testament to the positive influence of social media when used responsibly and with integrity.
