Ojukwu’s wife, ‘Bianca’ in list of new Ministers
President Bola Tinubu has recently appointed seven new ministers to enhance his administration’s effectiveness. This development was made public through an official statement released by the presidency after the Federal Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday.
The announcement highlighted, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has sanctioned the immediate rollout of eight significant initiatives aimed at revitalizing the government’s operational capacity, in line with his commitment to fulfilling his promises to the Nigerian populace.”
Among the new appointments, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu takes on the role of Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, while Jumoke Oduwole steps into the position of Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment. These selections form part of the anticipated reshuffle of Tinubu’s cabinet, which has been in power for over a year now.
Additionally, Maigari Dingyadi has been nominated as the Minister of Labour and Employment, and Idi Maiha has been appointed as the Minister for the newly established Livestock Development Ministry. Yusuf Ata has been designated as the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, while Suwaiba Ahmad will serve as the Minister of State for Education. Dr. Nentawe Yilwada is set to replace Betta Edu as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.
Notably, Ojukwu, the widow of the late Biafra leader Odumegwu Ojukwu, has an extensive background in diplomacy, having served as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Ghana and Spain after being appointed as the Senior Special Assistant on Diaspora Affairs by President Goodluck Jonathan in 2011. Prior to her ministerial nomination, Oduwole was the Special Adviser to the President on PEBEC & Investment.
On the flip side, President Tinubu has dismissed Uju-Ken Ohanenye from her role as Minister of Women’s Affairs, Lola Ade-John from the Ministry of Tourism, Tahir Mamman from the Ministry of Education, Abdullahi Gwarzo from the position of Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, and Jamila Ibrahim as Minister of Youth Development. Additionally, ten other ministers have been reassigned to different portfolios.
This reshuffle indicates a strategic move by the President to bolster his administration’s effectiveness while simultaneously addressing previous shortcomings within his cabinet.
