Planned Protest: We need time, Govt begs Nigerians

The Nigerian government has issued a plea for understanding and patience from its citizens as it works diligently to tackle the ongoing challenges plaguing the nation. Amidst mounting calls for nationwide protests, the government assured the public that it remains steadfast in its duty and is actively addressing the issues at hand.

Speaking from Abuja after a meeting of the Federal Executive Council convened by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris emphasized the government’s commitment to resolving national hardships. He described the planned protests as a “family matter,” stressing the government’s dedication to ensuring peace and stability across the country.

“We are fully aware of the concerns raised by our fellow Nigerians. We assure you, we are not asleep at the wheel. This is a critical moment for our nation, and we are actively engaged in dialogue with stakeholders across all sectors,” Minister Idris stated.

Acknowledging the right of citizens to express their views, including calls for protests, Minister Idris highlighted ongoing efforts by the President and various government officials to engage with stakeholders. “Engagement has been continuous. The President has held numerous meetings with key stakeholders, and this dialogue will persist in the best interest of Nigeria,” he affirmed.

Despite differing viewpoints, including calls from prominent figures like Senior Advocate of Nigeria Femi Falana for protests to proceed, Minister Idris underscored the government’s commitment to democratic principles. “In a democracy, diverse opinions are expected. We respect those viewpoints even as we work towards a unified path forward,” he added.

The meeting, which included several key ministers such as Nyesom Wike, Yusuf Tuggar, and David Umahi, among others, reflects the government’s collective effort to address national concerns comprehensively.

As the nation navigates these challenging times, the government remains resolute in its mission to foster a brighter future for all Nigerians. “This is our collective Nigerian family issue, and together, we will strive towards a peaceful resolution,” Minister Idris concluded.

In essence, while acknowledging the gravity of current challenges, the government’s appeal for patience and unity underscores its unwavering commitment to national progress and prosperity.
