Police Officer Dismissed
In a surprising turn of events, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has dismissed Corporal Buba Adamu for refusing to report to his new station in Kaduna. Adamu, who had been with the Cross River State Police Command for nine years, was transferred in 2015 but never reported to his new post.
Instead, Adamu allegedly promoted himself to the rank of superintendent and continued to operate illegally from the Cross River command. During a press briefing in Calabar, Irene Ugbo, the command’s spokesperson, revealed that Adamu had been functioning as a “mobile police officer without any supervision or reporting to a specific police command since 2015.”
Shockingly, Adamu continued to receive his salary despite his failure to comply with the transfer order. His illicit activities came to light when concerned members of the Nassarawa community, a Hausa/Fulani settlement in Calabar, reported his behavior to the authorities.
Following his detention, there were concerns that Adamu might be released due to external pressures. However, Ugbo confirmed that Adamu has been officially relieved of his duties and all police properties in his possession, including uniforms and identification cards, have been retrieved.
“The matter has now been charged to court. It is left for the judiciary to take it up from where we stopped, as we have done the needful,” Ugbo stated.
This incident underscores the importance of accountability and adherence to protocol within the police force. The actions taken by the NPF demonstrate their commitment to maintaining discipline and ensuring that officers uphold the integrity of the institution. The case now awaits judicial proceedings to determine the final outcome.
