Revolutionary Demands: Nigerians Call for Overhaul to End Bad Governance

Ahead of the nationwide protest slated to hold from August 1st, Nigerians have articulated a list of revolutionary demands for the government to address, as shared on Omoyele Sowore’s Facebook page:

  1. Replace the 1999 Constitution with a people-made one via a Sovereign National Conference and a National Referendum.
  2. Abolish the Senate, keep the House of Representatives, and make lawmaking a part-time job.
  3. Implement a minimum wage of at least N250,000 monthly.
  4. Invest heavily in education, providing grants to students and pursuing free compulsory education for children.
  5. Release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu unconditionally and demilitarize the South East.
  6. Renationalize public enterprises sold to government officials and cronies.
  7. Reinstate a corruption-free subsidy regime to alleviate hunger and poverty.
  8. Probe and recover looted funds from past and present leaders, using the money for education, healthcare, and infrastructure.
  9. Restructure Nigeria to support diversity, resource control, decentralization, and regional development.
  10. Reform security agencies to prevent human rights violations and enhance citizens’ safety.
  11. Establish a Special Energy Fund for power sector development.
  12. Reconstitute the Nigerian Electoral Body (INEC) to remove corrupt and partisan officials.
  13. Invest massively in public works and industrialization to create youth employment.
  14. Overhaul the judiciary to eliminate corruption and ensure justice for all citizens.

These revolutionary demands reflect widespread discontent with the current governance and a call for significant reforms to address various social, economic, and political issues in Nigeria.
