Tragic Misfortune: Mother and 5 children dies after eating expired food in Kano
In a heartbreaking event in Karkari village, Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State, a widow and her five children have tragically died after consuming expired food. The Kano State Police Command has confirmed that the victims perished after eating Danwake, a traditional Hausa dish.
The Public Relations Officer for the Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna, reported that the family, who had eaten the tainted food, was immediately taken to Gwarzo General Hospital. Unfortunately, medical professionals at the hospital confirmed their deaths upon arrival.
An investigation is currently underway to determine the exact cause of the fatalities. SP Haruna indicated that the authorities are awaiting a detailed medical report from the hospital to clarify the reason behind the tragic incident.
The incident unfolded last Thursday when the widow, responsible for preparing meals for her five children, used expired cassava flour in the preparation of the Danwake. The deceased individuals have been identified as Alhakatu Abdulkarim and her children: Bashir, Firdausi, Hafsat, Usman, and Jamilu.
This tragic occurrence underscores the critical importance of food safety and vigilance regarding expiration dates to prevent such devastating losses.
