Truck Collision Claims Lives of Grandmother and Granddaughter in Ogun
In a devastating turn of events, just one day after a truck accident in Ogun State claimed four lives and injured two others, another horrific truck crash has occurred, this time resulting in the death of a grandmother and her granddaughter in the Papalanto region.
According to Babatunde Akinbiyi, the spokesperson for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), the latest tragedy took place in the early hours of Friday. Akinbiyi reported that the incident involved an Iveco truck with the registration number KJA 166 XJ and a tricycle bearing the number plate TRE 627 VP. The cause of the accident was attributed to reckless driving by the truck driver. In total, four individuals were caught up in the collision, including two men and two women, with the two women tragically losing their lives.
Akinbiyi provided further details, explaining that the truck driver reportedly fled the scene immediately after the crash. Eyewitnesses recounted that the truck attempted to overtake the tricycle while both were heading towards Abeokuta near Papalanto. The maneuver led to the tricycle being pulled along the side of the truck, eventually tipping over and being run over, resulting in the instant death of the grandmother and her granddaughter, who were the sole occupants of the tricycle. Unfortunately, the truck driver managed to escape before law enforcement arrived.
The bodies of the deceased have been returned to their families, while the injured tricycle driver was taken to an undisclosed hospital by a bystander. The wrecked vehicles have been moved to the Itori Divisional Police Command. In a message of sympathy, Akinbiyi extended condolences to the victims’ families and reiterated the need for all motorists to exercise caution and avoid reckless driving to prevent such devastating accidents in the future.
