Uzodinma’s Victory Upheld in Imo State
The Court of Appeal in Abuja has dismissed the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate, Samuel Anyanwu, challenging the Imo State tribunal’s decision that affirmed Hope Uzodinma as the legitimate governor of the state. The court ruled that the appeal lacked merit, resolving all issues against the appellants.
Similarly, appeals by the Labour Party and its candidate, Achonu Nneji, and the Allied Peoples Movement were also dismissed for lacking merit. Dissatisfied with the tribunal’s judgment, the appellants approached the Court of Appeal, arguing that the November 11, 2023 election was invalid due to non-compliance with the Electoral Act and alleged that Governor Hope’s WAEC Certificate of Education was forged.
Delivering the judgment, the court held that the appellants failed to prove the alleged non-compliance and forgery. The three-man panel, led by Justice Bitrus Sanga, concluded that the appellants did not substantiate their claims of non-compliance or forgery, thus upholding Uzodinma’s victory.
This decision marks a significant victory for Governor Hope, reaffirming his position as the authentic governor of Imo State amidst allegations and legal challenges.
