Women lament: We were deceived into Protesting against the planned nationwide protest
Manipulated Voices: The Disturbing Exploitation of Women in Nigeria’s Protest Controversy”
In recent events, Nigeria has been gearing up for a nationwide protest scheduled for August 1, 2024, in response to severe economic hardship. However, controversy has arisen concerning the tactics employed by certain individuals to counteract this demonstration.
On July 29, 2024, a group of women was seen protesting against the upcoming nationwide protest in front of the Head of Service building in Abuja. These women were holding placards with the message “Say No to Protest.”
This morning, a video surfaced showing these women in distress, speaking in local dialects. The video has been interpreted to reveal that they were misled into traveling to Abuja under the guise of participating in an empowerment program.

Instead, they were coerced into protesting against the forthcoming nationwide demonstration, holding placards without their prior knowledge.
This manipulation of vulnerable individuals highlights a concerning abuse of influence and power. It undermines the genuine grievances of those who are legitimately protesting for their rights and exacerbates the already tense situation surrounding the economic crisis in Nigeria. Such tactics not only diminish the integrity of public protests but also exploit and demean those who are used as pawns in political maneuvers.
The actions of those orchestrating this deception are both ethically and morally reprehensible. It is imperative for society to address these manipulative practices and ensure that all voices, whether for or against the protest, are heard transparently and respectfully.
